The FIFA World Cup, the biggest sporting carnival on the planet, is all set to kick-start today. As Russia gets dressed to host the much-awaited event, fans from all over the world are set to see their favourite superstars in action. Brazilian great Ronaldo and British pop star Robbie Williams will be present at the opening ceremony.

Robbie Williams, who is best known for his hit single "Angels", will sing alongside Russian soprano Aida Garifullina shortly before Russia face Saudi Arabia in the first match of the FIFA World Cup at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium. Williams had said that performing at the FIFA World Cup was "a boyhood dream" and it would be "an unforgettable show".

The greatest show on the earth will begin tomorrow with the opening ceremony of the World Cup and ahead of the grand festivities Russia prepared to show off their culture and traditions through dancers, performers and other big-name headline acts in front of the world.

Robbie Williams opened the World Cup in Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Thursday. The former Take That man opened with ‘Let Me Entertain You’ ahead of kick-off between hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia, the two lowest ranked sides in the tournament, before singing ‘Feel’ and ‘Angels’ with Russian opera singer, Aida Garifullina.

World Cup and Brazil legend Ronaldo also made an appearance alongside the mascot as part of the ceremony, watched by 81,000 in attendance at the Luzhniki, where the final will be held in just over a month’s time.

Williams had been criticised for performing in Russia but said he was fulfilling a ‘boyhood dream’ in doing so.
